As I just sit here thinking,
Wondering over my life,
I remember my dearest father
Afflicted in his mind.

I wondered how he kept control,
And then I realized;
He closed his eyes to worries,
And simply became blind.

Oh, I don’t mean without sight,
For yes, father could see.
It’s just that he stared focused
On what the Lord said be.

There was just one voice inside
That he would stop to hear.
It was his spiritual contact
To Christ that thwarted fear.

All that he had to do each day
Is pray and talk to God,
Study upon his written word
For peace of mind and heart.

His thoughts were constantly on Christ.
Life guidance from him wrought.
This gave to him a peace of mind,
Peace that his Lord had bought.

Christ says my peace I leave with you,
Peace I give unto you.
Not as the world will give, I give.
This peace my father sought.

In memory of my Father, Rev. Robert James Stirtmire

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:  not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled,

neither let it be afraid.

St. John 14:27
