OUTER APPEARANCE

BY: MAZELLE STIRTMIRE WEBSTER

I only know what it looks like
Each time I look at you.
Your clothes are pressed; your hair is laid,
It seems your problems few.

To presume you have no cares,
Although, outside all things look well,
Not true, as I just look inside,
Surprised I am, pray tell.

To learn the hurt, the guilt, the pain
That you carry inside;
Outer appearance fooled my eyes
For these are all denied.

So, I encourage you, each day
To look beyond what seems,
And try to find and meet a need
Of one whose trust you’ve seized.
